Ingredients
butter or olive oil
1 lb ground beef
1/3 green bell pepper, minced
1/2 small yellow onion, minced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp tomato paste
2/3 c ketchup (Whole Foods Organic ketchup is my favorite)
1/3 c water
1 tsp yellow mustard
1 tsp worcestershire sauce
1 tsp liquid aminos or soy sauce
1 tsp sherry (optional)
1 tsp white vinegar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
For serving: Buns and American cheese
Instructions
- Chop the vegetables.
- Mix tomato paste with water until smooth. Add other sauce ingredients and mix again.
- Heat skillet over medium.
- Add butter/olive oil, bell pepper, and onions.
- Saute for 5-7 minutes, until onions are semi-translucent.
- Add the garlic and cook 2 minutes. Push the veggies to the side.
- Add a little extra butter/olive oil, if needed. Add ground beef. Sprinkle with the 1/2 tsp salt.
- Increase heat to medium-high and brown the beef. Chop in to small pieces. Drain extra fat, if necessary.
- Stir the meat and veggies together. Add the sauce.
- Cook until bubbling and slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Serve on buns, with American cheese if desired.
